Hydroxylamine sulfate(Cas 10039-54-0) Usage

Category Chemical reagent, reducing agent, intermediate in industrial processes

General Description

Hydroxylamine sulfate is a colorless to white crystalline solid or powder. It is used in various industrial applications including photography, leather tanning, and polymer manufacturing. It serves as an intermediate in organic synthesis and as a reducing agent in different chemical reactions.
Reactivity Reacts with strong acids and bases; can explode when heated to around 170°C. Releases sulfuric acid fumes when heated in fires.
Stability Stable under normal temperatures but decomposes on heating, releasing toxic fumes of sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
Toxicity Can be harmful if inhaled, ingested, or upon contact with skin. It may cause cyanosis, methemoglobinemia, and systemic poisoning.
Hazards Irritant to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Classified as moderately explosive, particularly under heat or when chemically reacting with certain substances (e.g., sodium or strong alkalis).
Uses Photography: Used as a reducing agent in photographic developing solutions.
Leather Tanning: Plays a role in chemical treatments during leather processing.
Polymer Manufacturing: Functions as a reducing agent and intermediate in the production of certain polymers.
Thermodynamic and Solubility Properties Hydroxylamine sulfate shows increased solubility in water-ethanol binary solvents with rising temperature and water content.
Solubility behavior and phase separation were investigated between 283.15 K to 323.15 K, with higher temperatures inducing liquid-liquid phase separation.
The substance follows an endothermic and entropy-driven solubility process as confirmed by thermodynamic analysis using models like the van’t Hoff and Apelblat models.
