In medicine, dextranase is applied in dental care to remove plaque, in blood substitutes, and to enhance antibiotic efficacy in infections like endocarditis. Additionally, it facilitates lymphocyte recovery in research and can produce isomalto-oligosaccharides, which have prebiotic properties. Sources of dextranase include bacteria and fungi, and it can be immobilized on nanoparticles to extend its shelf life and activity.
